About mid morning the
handyman came by to get a list of things to do and give us a quote. He came in with a helper and went around
making a list of things he wanted to
do all the while, saying “this is a hundred dollars”, “that is a hundred
dollars”. By the time made it to the
front door, he had spent our entire budget and none of it was stuff I wanted
him to do.
Our I told him that this
was a great list, but that I could do most of it myself and needed him to do a
few things that I just couldn’t. Then
walked him around and made him write down my list of to-dos. He noticed that I was painting upstairs and
made a comment (one of many off the wall comments) on how he knew of a place to get cheap paint, but “it was in a
bad area of town.” Had to laugh and
asked if he had ever heard of Compton.
He seems confused that he couldn’t rattle a woman no matter how hard he
tried.
When we were done, he looked
at my list and snickered. He told me he had a friend who could replace the
glass he could hire for cheap, but would need to get costs for the rest of
it. I got his number and told him I
would have my husband talk to him and they could work out the costs. He then informed me that he didn’t work for
us, he worked for the realtor. But he
actually works for himself and would be happy to bypass the realtor. I told him we hired the realtor and that if
he wanted more work, let’s see how he does with a couple of priories on this
list first.
The guy left and I went
back to work scrubbing walls. Didn’t
like him and definitely don’t trust him.
To be continued…
